Given the natural beauty of this area, it is important to us that we reduce our impact on the environment.

Our green friendly approach

  • We provide guests with high quality eco friendly organic bath and body products

    Carina Organics

Carina Organics is a very important part of our efforts. We provide guests with Carina organics body wash, shampoo & conditioner, lotion, and hair gel.

These products are made from high quality natural ingredients that are not only septic safe (we are on a septic system), but are also safe to deposit into the soil after the septic system process is complete. This ensures that the wetland ecosystem will not be negatively affected by our guests hygiene products.

And, one last reason we love using Carina Organics: they help us reduce our single use plastics use via a bulk refill program.

  • Organic, compostable coffee provided to guests of our vacation rental near Mount Rainier

    Coffee & Tea

We’ve found that guests expect single-serve coffee instead of the traditional coffee pot. But, it was important to use that we not contribute to the coffee pod waste that has become a large contributor to waste. We searched long and hard to find a less wasteful alternative, and eventually found these “teabag” style coffees, which are significantly less wasteful than other single serve coffees. Bonus: they are organic, and contain no additives.

Additionally, our selection of teas come from B-corp certified Bigelow Tea company. They have some of the best practices in the tea industry, and use only renewable energy sources.

  • Wetland habitat vacation home near Seattle Tacoma Puyallup Graham

    Habitat Rehabilitation

Preserving the natural beauty of this “wonderland” is one of our top priorities. Proceeds from the vacation rental go towards rehabilitating the wetlands
    Habitat Rehabilitation
The area around Lake Kapowsin, Twin Lakes, and Lake Whitman is considered to be an “ecologically sensitive area.” When we purchased this property, there were many land use issues from the prior owners that had to be mitigated to protect the wildlife.

We’ve spent the past three years (with additional plans forthcoming) rehabilitating a large section of wetland, removing and preventing the spread of invasive plants, re-introducing native plants, and monitoring the animal life that depend on this land.

And, we want to share our efforts with guests. We are in the process of setting up a nature-walk guide for guests to learn about this project and the local wildlife!

  • Compost & Recycling

We provide a countertop compost bin for guest use. Please use this for food scraps (check the composting guide in the kitchen window sill for what and what not to compost!). Composting not only reduces waste, but returns nutrients to the soil!

We use the local garbage service to pick-up guest recycling, further reducing the amount of trash created during guest trips!

  • Lower Impact Remodel

Prior to launching the rental listing, we renovated many areas of the home. But, we used a combination of eco-friendly building materials, re-using as many of the original materials as possible, and repurposing or donating the materials we couldn’t re-use to projects that work to ensure old building materials don’t end up in landfills.

  • Green Cleaning

All of our cleaning products are eco-friendly, and just like the Carina Organics products, are safe for the lake environment. This ensures that the sensitive wetland ecosystem will not be negatively affected by our guests hygiene products.
